Bullets would arc around digger’s heads. Some men would move just before a slug, stalling a dent in their helmets. Some would take off their helmets after they’d been struck, only to be buckshot with another. There they’d be – helmet in their hands, bloodied head, and a limp neck – their bodies twisted by the curvature of death.
